What This Church Just Built To Reach The People May Just Surprise You!

A New Kind Of Ministry

The members at the Rocky Mount United Methodist church are getting creative about outreach. They’ve built something that is so unique that it may raise a few eyebrows— but it’s just what the community wanted. Now hundreds of people are hearing about Jesus at an unlikely place— a gun range.

At first the idea to build to gun range came about in efforts teach gun safety, but because the church has so many hunters, they were all flocking to the range in hopes to sharpen their skills. The ol’ hunters took the liberty to name the gun range, “Rocky Mount Hunt and Gun Club.” But the club grew to something bigger— it's now a full-blown ministry. Interest and attendance kept growing, and the range appealed to women who had guns for self-defense but never knew how to safely handle them.

Pastor Phillip Guin said, “We had quite a number of church members, some elderly ladies, for example, and some not so elderly women that had purchased guns but didn’t know how to use them.”

And if you are going to learn how to use a gun, then you might as well learn at church. Even the local police department is using the Rocky Mount Hunt and Gun Club to train the general public on gun safety.

Pastor Guin is glad to bring the ‘church’ to the people and to meet them right where they are, “This is an opportunity for us to reach out in the name of Jesus Christ in a setting that is completely unique. Even odd by some people’s standards. But who’s to say that church can’t happen right here.”

A Prayer for Those Who Are Lonely or Isolated This Christmas - Your Daily Prayer - December 23

This Christmas, remember how precious you are to the Creator. Remember that there is nothing you can do or say that would ever separate His presence and love from you. It’s okay to go through Christmas feeling alone and isolated, but make sure you turn to God to fill those feelings of loneliness.
