When Chip and Joanna Gaines showed up to help 81-year-old Doris Davis rebuild, it was the kind of surprise every Fixer Upper fan dreams of. But the sweet lady certainly deserves it after Hurricane Harvey destroyed her home. And it's just one more reason to love Chip and Jo!
“I don’t know if I was so frightened, from all this going on, I really could not move,” she recalled.Doris' grandchildren were worried sick, but couldn't get to her themselves. They turned to social for help. Thankfully, they learned a kind neighbor rescued their grandmother and took her to the hospital for care. [rsnippet id="3"]
"I mean, I wasn't expecting this honey," Doris said in her sweet, southern drawl, donning her fur coat so she could "look good on TV."
The down-to-earth celebs shared a hug with the 81-year-old, then went to work with the rest of the volunteers to fix Doris' home. And the woman who relies on a wheelchair and sometimes a cane to get around can't thank everyone who's helping enough. She says she'd never be able to any of this on her own. "For us, finally getting to be here -- feet, hands on the ground -- it's a huge honor. We're excited to get after it," Joanna said.RELATED: 4 Things We Can Learn About Marriage From Chip And Joanna Gaines Chip mirrored his wife's excitement, encouraging everyone to get involved in relief efforts.
"We really want to embolden everybody to get in and do their part," he said.The repairs will be completed In about four weeks. Then Doris and her three dogs will be able to move back in.
