Chip And Joanna Gaines Rebuild Home For Elderly Hurricane Victim
When Chip and Joanna Gaines showed up to help 81-year-old Doris Davis rebuild, it was the kind of surprise every Fixer Upper fan dreams of. But the sweet lady certainly deserves it after Hurricane Harvey destroyed her home. And it's just one more reason to love Chip and Jo! godupdates chip and joanna gaines showed up to help hurricane victim fb Credit: Mireya Acierto, FilmMagic When Hurricane Harvey hit Houston in late August, Doris' home took in two feet of water. The elderly woman remained in her home for three days as the water rose, paralyzed by fear.
“I don’t know if I was so frightened, from all this going on, I really could not move,” she recalled.
Doris' grandchildren were worried sick, but couldn't get to her themselves. They turned to social media for help. Thankfully, they learned a kind neighbor rescued their grandmother and took her to the hospital for care. [rsnippet id="3" name="Article-Ad"]

Chip And Joanna Gaines Showed Up To Help

Like so many, the flooding ravaged Doris' home. But tears welled up in her eyes as she watched roughly 60 ExxonMobil volunteers arrive to help rebuild her home. And along with the crowd of Good Samaritans, Chip and Joanna Gaines showed up to help! "I mean, I wasn't expecting this honey," Doris said in her sweet, southern drawl, donning her fur coat so she could "look good on TV."
The down-to-earth celebs shared a hug with the 81-year-old, then went to work with the rest of the volunteers to fix Doris' home. And the woman who relies on a wheelchair and sometimes a cane to get around can't thank everyone who's helping enough. She says she'd never be able to any of this on her own. Of course, lovebirds Chip and Joanna couldn't be happier to be a part of the project.
"For us, finally getting to be here -- feet, hands on the ground -- it's a huge honor. We're excited to get after it," Joanna said.
