In fact, a little consideration here and some warmheartedness there could quite literally change someone’s entire world. Carol Burnett talked about how a surprising instance of kindness helped to spring her career forward.
Carol Burnett appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show, where she talked to the “Miss Independent” singer about her life and career in show business. In a clip posted on YouTube, the iconic funny woman mentioned how she was acting in college at UCLA, but her dream was to make it to New York City.
However, due to her financial constraints at the time, Carol was unable to make the trip to the Big Apple. But one conversation after a college show changed her life forever.

“Afterwards, this gentleman and his wife came up to me and they said, ‘We liked you very much. And what do you want to do with your life?’”
Carol dreamt of being on the stage, starring in musical comedies, but she knew she couldn’t afford the move across the country. The stranger then told Carol that he would lend her the money. He then gave a young Carol Burnett $1,000. He told her to pay him back when she could within five years.
But, as Carol mentioned, the man had other stipulations on his unexpected loan.
“Stipulations: Don’t ever reveal my name,” Carol said. “You must use the money to go to New York on. And if you are successful, you must promise to help other people out, too.”
The clip ended with Carol happily reporting that she was able to meet and keep all the terms of the $1,000 loan.
