Then tragedy struck through a car accident.

Finding Herself Partially Paralyzed

When a car collided with hers, Brianna broke her neck and this injury left her partially paralyzed from the neck down. In one instant, the dreams she had as a little girl about walking down the aisle vanished. It wasn’t just her wedding plans and dreams that changed in an instant–her entire life had changed.

In those first few days when the world she knew seemed to be lost, she gave Ryan the chance to walk away. She didn’t want him to be her caregiver.

"After the accident, I gave Ryan the out. I knew the severity of my injuries when they told me that I had broken my neck. And I thought, this is it. I am a quadriplegic,' she says. "I told him I didn't want him to stay out of pity or fear of what other people will think. We were young and I didn't want him to have a life of just being a caregiver and being bedside with me,” she said

Brianna Seewald was faced with the daunting task of living a life of limited mobility in a wheelchair.

Determined To Recover

While she lay in her hospital bed trying to come to terms with her new life, Ryan did something unexpected. He realized how precious life is and how quickly it can change in a heartbeat. He didn’t want to waste any more time and he proposed.

That moment gave Brianna Seewald the strength and resolve to walk down the aisle. She promised Ryan he would witness her walking to him on their big day. For three years, she worked tirelessly for three hours a day to regain some mobility. Her goal–to walk down the aisle.

"I worked every day for almost three years to be able to walk at my wedding. And I do mean every single day. I had three hours of intensive physical therapy and it was just a lot for my body to handle," she said

The only family who got to see her work so incredibly hard at her goal was her parents. She refused to let Ryan watch her during physical rehabilitation.

"Ryan never got to see any of that. I never let Ryan see the practice happen. Nobody did besides my mom and my dad. I wanted it all to be a surprise for them if I could do it,” she shared
