Emma Noyes’s husband may have set a new standard for relationships by becoming best friends with Emma’s grandma. Not only did Emma’s husband Pontus meet her grandmother, whom they call “Gramsie,” but he also wholly charmed her and fell in love with her!

Pontus and Emma began dating after meeting online in January 2022. When Pontus returned to his native Sweden to complete a finance degree at Lund University, Emma joined him. Once the two moved back to the United States, Pontus proposed, and Emma gave an enthusiastic “yes.” Pontus’s amazing connection to her family and her beloved Gramsie was one reason her answer came so quickly.

Emma told People, “Gramsie is a total ham. Having your significant other meet her is sort of a rite of passage in our family. I told Pontus that she loves sweets, so he brought her a giant bar of Marabou, a Swedish chocolate. I think she fell in love with him as soon as he handed her that chocolate bar, and they've been best friends ever since.”

The couple lives in Chicago, which is about four hours from Indianapolis, where Gramsie grew up, raised her family, and now lives in an assisted living facility. However, Pontus and Emma make it a point to visit Gramsie several times each year. Emma shared a video from a recent visit on TikTok, and it’s gone viral. Commenters adore the connection between Gramsie and Pontus. While one is impressed with Gramsie’s good looks, many are smitten with the adorable and genuine interactions between the two!

When Emma, Gramsie, and Pontus spend time together, they do the things that Gramsie enjoys most. Emma shared, “Gramsie loves drinking coffee, knitting, eating sweets and visiting with her friends at the home, so we do all of those things when we visit with her. Last weekend, we also took her to visit three bookstores.”

Becoming Best Friends With Grandma is a Truly Special Thing

An author, Emma likes to visit bookstores, and Gramsie was thrilled to join her in exploring a few she’d not yet visited. And, while Emma admits that bringing her “adorable” 91-year-old grandmother to a bookstore wins lots of points because booksellers immediately love her, their time together is anything but business!

The threesome savor their adventures. Emma said, “She’s in amazing health—you would never guess she’s 91 by how sprightly and mischievous she is! But we still try to prioritize time with her whenever we can.”

Touched by recent videos of grandkids surprising grandparents with impromptu sleepovers, Emma decided to share a few of their special times on TikTok. That suits Gramsie just fine! Emma continued, “Gramsie definitely knows she’s going viral, and she’s loving every second of it. Yesterday, one of the nurses ... recognized her from the video. Gramsie texted me right away saying how excited she was. And when I texted her to say that a reporter from PEOPLE had reached out to write a story about the video, she responded, ‘No way! Don’t tease me!’”

Grandparents are pretty special, and Pontus found a beautiful bride with a bonus. He now has a grandmother for the first time in his life, and he is blessed! They all are!
