Living With No Arms

The video begins as the judges greet and chat with Vitoria, who is accompanied on stage by Mayara Falsarella. Mayara is not only Vitoria’s interpreter; she is also her dance instructor. She’s been working with Vitoria since she began taking dance lessons at the age of five. The two are like family!

Following introductions, we learn a little more about Vitoria. Born with a genetic defect, Vitoria has learned to function very well without arms. She uses her feet to eat and drink, brush her teeth, and apply makeup. With reference to her dancing, Vitoria has said, “For me, arms, they’re just a detail. I follow with my eyes as if they were there.”
