Borderline Atheist Sought The Supernatural, Then Had Brush With Death

Kingsley Brown

Jim Munroe found himself searching for answers in the supernatural during college. After an injury stopped his baseball career, he sought a new life path. This search for answers quickly led him to a career as a world-renown illusionist.  But that changed when God reached him in a very real way. credit: Judson University In a recent speech given at the Judson University's World Leaders Forum Inspirational Series, Jim explained about his supernatural past.

"I was a self-proclaimed agnostic, borderline atheist."
[rsnippet id="3"] With a career based on deception, Jim found himself believing that faith-based spirituality must be a lie. Every one of his tricks had a scientific principle behind it and was just a "scheme".  This led him to believe he couldn't connect with a belief system based on faith because it must be a hoax. His impression was that if there was a God, he was just a man behind a curtain. Just another illusion where a trick was at play. A friend asked Jim to join them at church. He went out of curiosity. While he was there, he felt a tug at his heart but wasn't quite ready to face the idea of God. Instead, he found himself asking questions to a God he wasn't sure existed.
"I asked God 'I need you to make this real to me'" "I need You to take me back behind the curtain."

God Works In Mysterious Ways

Years later, when Jim was 29, he had a brush with death. He was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia, Philadelphia Positive Acute Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. Doctors told him that he had months to live. Jim's only hope was a bone marrow transplant.
"What they wanted to do was to get me into remission by treating me with chemotherapy, but then find somebody somewhere in the world, whose DNA matched mine so succinctly that they would literally take their immune system out of their body and put it into mine and hope that my body would recognize it enough as its own; and it would essentially start growing new white blood cells from an entirely new person," he explained.
That's when the miracle happened. This father of two was given a chance to survive! Through the Be The Match National Marrow Donor Program, doctors had found "one perfect match" for Jim, a 19-year-old female willing to donate. Five months later, Jim underwent the surgery successfully. The phrases the doctors were using to explain the surgery were all too familiar. "You will be born a new person" and "you will be like a baby inside a womb all over again." Jim could not deny that God was speaking to him in a very real way. He couldn't scheme his way out of seeing that God was answering his very prayer.  This experience was his opportunity to connect with the One True God!
"A substitution of blood on my behalf so that I could live again, and so that the deception of my body would die – that to me is really difficult to ignore when I ask God to reveal Himself to me," Jim shares. "It's no longer I who lives, but someone else who lives inside of me."

God-given Testimony

Now Jim Munroe tells his story as part of IAmSecond.com. This movement includes interviews from famous athletes, politicians, actors, and performers who all testify that indeed Christ is first, they are second. Through this platform, they are able to answer questions such as "How to talk with God?" "Does God care about me?" "Why is Jesus the only way to Heaven?" credit: IAmSecond.com From his personal experiences with the supernatural,  Munroe says there is one truth that he wants to share with the world.
"There is not a question in my mind that the only answer for the human condition is that of Jesus," he says. "... I fully believe in not only who God is, but also what He did for me. There is no question in my mind."
Jim continues to be grateful for the healing he experienced. He sees each moment as a blessing and values the opportunity to have more time with his family. He gladly takes every chance he has to share his testimony of God's work in his life. credit: Facebook/EliMunroe h/t: Daily Herald YOU MAY ALSO LIKE: This Music Legend’s Daughter Lived A Life Of Pain Until Meeting Jesus
