The goofy mammals seem to roam freely around the house like cats, jumping on the tables and furniture and running up and down the stairs. They also appear to have a cat’s curiosity level too! When their parents pulled out a small popcorn machine and a bag of kernels, the two Asian small-clawed otters just HAD to see what was going on!
Once the machine turned on, the otters definitely regretted getting up close and personal with the noisy object. They ran all over the place trying to get away from the scary popcorn monster. Up and down the stairs, on and off the table, and under the couch!
Asian small-clawed otters normally weigh under 10 pounds since they are the smallest type of otter. They live for around 12 years and grow up to two feet long. Almost half of their length comes from their tails!

I’m not sure what these guys eat on a daily basis, but the Smithsonian’s National Zoo feeds their small-clawed otters wet and dry cat food along with small fish. They also get some tasty snacks like crabs, clams, and crickets! Yum!
It’s not a surprise that Hana and Kotaro were a bit confused with the popcorn since it probably smells nothing like the food they’re used to!
After realizing they could eat the popcorn, the Asian small-clawed otters began snacking! The cuties picked the pieces up one by one with their paws and squealed with excitement.
