Amy Grant Talks Christian Faith And Her Love-Hate Relationship With Parts Of The Bible

Christian and multi-Grammy Award-winning singer Amy Grant recently admitted she has a “love-hate relationship” with some sections of God’s word.

Christians follow and hold the Bible up as the inspired and breathed word of God. For followers of Jesus Christ, the Bible is essentially a blueprint and guidebook for daily living. The Bible is filled with trials, triumphs and failures of people looked up to as giants in Christianity, including Abraham, Moses, Noah, David and Paul. The book also contains Jesus' sacrifice, words and lessons on several subjects.

In addition to being a guide, the Bible is a book filled with passages that are meant to enlighten and convict Christians, possibly highlighting a potential issue or struggle in their lives. Some of those passages, for one reason or another, can be hard to get through. The Bible does not shy away from showing the ugliness and sin of man.

Singer Amy Grant mentioned that there are places in The Bible that she has a tough time reading. In fact, during an appearance on the No Small Endeavor podcast, she said she has a “love-hate relationship” with some areas of Scripture.

Amy Admits That She Has Problems Reading Parts Of The Old Testament

More specifically, she mentioned she has issues with parts of the Old Testament.

“I'll be honest, it's hard to read a lot of the other stuff in the Bible for me. I have a love-hate relationship with a lot of the history in the Old Testament,“ Amy said, according to Christian Headlines. “It's hard for me to trust anything that involves people. Because I know that I'm a mess.”

Amy said she’s able to read those areas of the Old Testament after telling herself that God was still at work in those situations.

“But I'm like, ‘Okay, people are involved [in the Old Testament stories]. I'm just gonna -- okay, God, I know You're in this,” she said. “I've just got to trust You.’ If people are involved, I have to take a deep breath.”

Amy Admits The She Also Struggles With Christ's Words About Divorce

Additionally, Christian Headlines reports that Amy, who has gone through a divorce but is now married to fellow singer Vince Gill, struggles with Jesus’ words on the ending of marriage.

“Mostly, what I want to hear about is Jesus, and then He says stuff that scares the ever-living daylights out of me. Like today. What I read today was about if a woman's divorced -- and I'm like, ‘Jesus, even you said it. You didn't talk about very many things. But why did You talk about divorce? People are so ugly to each other. Why did you say divorce?’ And then I find myself fighting with Him. ... Clearly, we all need help.”

The Bible says that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. No one is perfect. Everyone has sinned, has struggles and has a past. But thankfully, God, because of His grace and mercy, loves and forgives us despite our failings!
