A 90-year-old from Oklahoma is rewarded for going out of his way to help others. In the quiet Hidden Creek neighborhood, a man named Lewis Hunt gets up early each morning to make his rounds. He ensures everyone has their newspaper, the garbage is set out when needed, and if neighbors are on a trip, he ensures their home is taken care of. Lewis has been doing this for the neighborhood for well over 20 years. He’s the kind of man who takes the phrase “Love your neighbor” seriously. It’s a passion for him to make sure everyone is doing okay.

His wife Nannette says it’s important to him to show everyone he cares.  She said, “He is special, he really is. He keeps busy. He loves what he’s doing.” His neighbors have nothing but praise for the man.

Dan Hayes said, “He knows everything. If there’s something that needs to be repaired, whether it’s the gates or lights or anything, he knows who to go to.” Other neighbors chimed in with other comments about how Lewis has helped with electrical issues, flat tires, plumbing disasters, and more. If there’s ever a question about the neighborhood, he’s the first one people call.

His friends were so encouraged by his kindness and generosity that they nominated him for the Pay It Forward Award. And wouldn’t you know he received those special honors and a cash prize? He was stunned beyond words. He said, “You know you’ve got me where honestly I don’t know what to say.”

Lewis’s way of helping his friends and neighbors reminds us that we can brighten someone’s day and be Jesus' hands and feet. All it takes is a little kindness.
