8 Great Bible Verses About Worship
January 17, 2023
Worship is an essential part of the Christian faith. We express our thankfulness and awe to the Lord when we worship in our prayers, songs, service, and giving.
Worship involves a spiritual intimacy that sets all believers apart from those who worship other gods. When we worship God in sincerity with a clean heart and mind, He encourages our spirits to enjoy His presence over our lives.
Top 8 Worship Scriptures in the Bible
Read through the eight great Bible verses about worship to grow in a deeper spiritual walk with God:
Worship with our Offerings - 1 Chronicles 16:29
“Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness” (1 Chronicles 16:29).
When we bring our offerings to God, it is a form of worship. Worshipping God by giving our money reveals our heart’s desires. We give sacrificially, generously, and consistently to ascribe value to who God is in our lives. By doing so, our love for God grows stronger, and we are less likely to fall in love with money.
Worship with our Musical Instruments - 2 Chronicles 29:28
“The whole assembly bowed in worship, while the musicians played and the trumpets sounded. All this continued until the sacrifice of the burnt offering was completed” (2 Chronicles 29:28).
The energy, intensity, and purity of musical instruments bring a greater awareness of the worship in the assembly of believers. The music can be varied based on preferences, cultures, or availability. If the focus remains on the Lord without engaging the carnal nature, musical instruments in worship can bring people’s hearts in alignment with God’s presence in the place.
Worship with our Physical Posture - Psalm 95:6
“Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker” (Psalm 95:6).
Every person who came into the presence of God was compelled to hit the ground with bowed heads. Kneeling on the ground, laying out full posture, bowing the head, or standing with hands in the air are all examples of a physical response to worshipping God. Those who are accustomed to worshipping God in their home have an automatic response to His presence in the gathering with other believers.
Worship in our Songs - Psalm 100:2
“Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs” (Psalm 100:2).
In addition to musical instruments, we can worship God with songs from our hearts. There’s incredible beauty and magnificence when the body of Christ gathers with one heart and mind to sing worship songs to the Lord. The words of hymns and spiritual songs resonate with our inner spirits, the glory of God in worship.
Worship in Spirit and Truth - John 4:23-24
“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth” (John 4:23-24).
Many people pretend to worship God; however, the Lord sees their hearts and minds. God accepts true worship from those who are a part of the body of Christ and live truthful lives. When we are honest with the Lord to confess our sins, we are purified to worship Him in Spirit and truth.
Worship with our Life - Romans 12:1
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship” (Romans 12:1).
As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we sacrifice our lives daily for His purposes and plans, not our selfish motives. We are taking up our cross daily and trusting in the Lord to lead us in the right direction. Our continual sacrifice is an offering of worship to Him out of gratefulness for the things He has done.
Worship with Reverence and Awe - Hebrews 12:28
“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:28).
Worshipping God is not to be taken lightly or presumptuously. The Lord is holy, majestic, and powerful—we worship Him in the manner that He is worthy. There’s a spiritual awareness of God’s presence in those who’ve accepted Jesus Christ as Lord. As a result, we are careful to respond to the Lord in peace during times of worship so that all attention is directed toward Him and not ourselves.
Worship only God - Luke 4:8
“Jesus answered, ‘It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’” (Luke 4:8).
It’s tempting for every person to worship someone or something other than the Lord. We worship our money, recreation, jobs, homes, and other material things. We may not bow down to them physically, but we can emotionally pay homage to earthly things over God. The Lord doesn’t accept insincere worship—He desires all worship to be firmly directed towards Him and nothing else.
Worship the One and Only God - Matthew 4:10
"Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve.’” (Matthew 4:10)
Many people are worshipping gods that have no power to save them and no unconditional love to draw them. As believers, we must press our way to worship God regularly with no excuses. One day we will stand in the assembly of saints and angels to worship our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Let us now worship Him in preparation for our heavenly dwelling place.

And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. ~ Colossians 3:14-17
