77 Bible Verses About Faith To Encourage You Today

Faith is a topic that reaches across the whole Bible. Abraham was credited in the Old Testament as the "Father of Faith." In the New Testament Gospels, Jesus talks about faith as central to our salvation.

As you read through these Bible verses about faith today, try not to rush as many of us do by reading anything longer than a few paragraphs. I encourage you to take a deep breath and relax to slow yourself down.

Let the word of God hit you today in a unique way. If a verse you read strikes you, try to read it again and then write it down as God is trying to speak to you through it. I am in prayer for each of the readers as I write this article. I pray that by the Glory of God and His powerful word, you may be uplifted.

“Faith sees the invisible, believes the unbelievable, and receives the impossible.” ~ Corrie Ten Boom

What is Faith in the Bible?

Many of us question what faith is and sometimes complicate it. The Bible gives an incredible definition of what Faith actually is at the start of Hebrews 11.

Hebrews 11:1-6 - Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead. By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Walking By Faith

We are instructed in the Bible to walk by faith. Are you walking by faith today?

2 Corinthians 5:7For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Hebrews 6:1 - Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God

11 Bible Verses Quoting Jesus On Faith

God became flesh and walked among us! When Jesus was here on earth, He said some profound things on many topics. When studying the topic of Faith it is essential to see what Jesus said about it.

Matthew 14:31 - Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Matthew 17:20 - He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”

Luke 12:28 - But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith!

Matthew 21:21 - And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen.

John 14:12 - “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.

The Centurion: Luke 7:8-10 For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him, said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.” And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant well.

Two Blind Men: Matthew 9:27-29 And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.”

A Woman Who Had Bled for 12 Years: Matthew 9:20-22 And behold, a woman who had suffered from a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, for she said to herself, “If I only touch his garment, I will be made well.” Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well.

Lack of Faith In Nazareth: Matthew 13:54-58 and coming to his hometown he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.” And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.

Peter Answers In Faith: Matthew 16:15-18 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Ten Lepers: Luke 17:12-19 And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”

7 Ways To Increase Your Faith

One of the beautiful things about faith is that we can increase ours. There are things you can do in your life that will strengthen your faith. Read these seven scriptures and put them into action!

Read The Bible

Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Pray For Faith

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

Be A Doer of God’s Word

James 1:22-24 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.

Test The Word of God and See That He is Faithful

Malachi 3:9-11 You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you. Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the LORD of hosts.

Love One Another

Galatians 5:6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.

Fellowship and Prayer with other Believers

Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

Surrender To God’s Will in your Life

Matthew 16:24-27 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done.

Faith is a living and unshakable confidence. A belief in God so assured that a man would die a thousand deaths for its sake. -- Martin Luther

Examples of Faith In the Bible

When reading the Bible, you can see examples of faith throughout. Though many failed at times in their faith, God always loved them. Here are just a few examples of people of faith in the Old and New Testaments. What are your favorite examples of faith in the Bible?

Old Testament

Noah

Genesis 6:22 Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him.

Abraham, the Father of Faith

Genesis 22:1-3 After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.

Joshua

Joshua 10:12 At that time Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord gave the Amorites over to the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, “Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.”

Moses

Exodus 14:13 And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again.

Daniel

Daniel 6:23 Then the king was exceedingly glad, and commanded that Daniel be taken up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of harm was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.

Esther

Esther 4:14  For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

David

1 Samuel 17:45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

New Testament

Peter

Luke 9:20 Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”

Paul

Acts 9:18-22 And immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he rose and was baptized; and taking food, he was strengthened. For some days he was with the disciples at Damascus. And immediately he proclaimed Jesus in the synagogues, saying, “He is the Son of God.” And all who heard him were amazed and said, “Is not this the man who made havoc in Jerusalem of those who called upon this name? And has he not come here for this purpose, to bring them bound before the chief priests?” But Saul increased all the more in strength, and confounded the Jews who lived in Damascus by proving that Jesus was the Christ.

John The Baptist

John 1:19-23 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.” And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” So they said to him, “Who are you? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” He said, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”

Mary (Mother of Jesus)

Luke 1:38 I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

Faith, Hope, and Love Bible Verse

1 Corinthians 13:13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Saving Faith

A faith that saves us is the ultimate faith. Faith that saves not only believes in God as the enemy even believes in this. A faith that saves accepts Jesus has died for their sins and trusts in Him as the only source of salvation.

Acts 15:8-9 - And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us, and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith.

John 3:16 - “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 4:16 That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all,

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,

2 Corinthians 4:13-14 Since we have the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, “I believed, and so I spoke,” we also believe, and so we also speak, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence.

Titus 1:2 in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began

Sharing Your Faith With Others

If you have saving faith you can't help but share the good news with others. Sometimes believers get intimidated by how or what to share. Read through these passages showing the importance of showing the belief inside of you.

Do Not Be Ashamed

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

Be Ready To Answer To The Hope Inside of You

1 Peter 3:15 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,

Jesus Commands us to Share our Faith

Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Telling the Next Generation about Christ

Psalm 71:16-18 With the mighty deeds of the Lord GOD I will come; I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone. O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds. So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation, your power to all those to come.

Day After Day Tell of Your Faith

Psalm 96:2-3 Sing to the LORD, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!

A study of God's faithfulness to us is always so comforting. Enjoy these few verses on this topic.

A Childlike Faith

Little Children are a perfect example of complete trust. In the same way, Christians are called to be like children in our faith. We are to put complete trust in God and His word.

Psalm 8:2 - Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger.

Matthew 21:16 - and they said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read,“‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies  you have prepared praise’?”

Persevering In Faith

Despite trials and tribulations, we are called to persevere in our faith. Perseverance is a great tool to witness to others about the hope inside of you.

2 Timothy 4:7 - I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

James 1:3 - for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.

1 John 5:4 - For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith
