7 Of The Most Inspirational Bible Verses
July 13, 2015
Here are 7 of the most inspirational Bible verse that I treasure in the Bible. Which ones would you add?
Psalm 116:15 “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.”
This verse is one of my favorites because of the funerals that I have done and is one of the tenderest Bible verses in all Scripture to me. It appears that God mourns with those who have lost loved ones and but He also seems to grieve with them too. Elsewhere, this same deep compassion is shown by Jesus in the shortest and yet most powerful Bible verses in the Bible where Jesus saw Lazarus’ sisters Mary and Martha moved to tears after Lazarus’ death and it was written that “Jesus wept” (John 11:35). Remember when Jesus was coming to raise Lazarus from the dead He “was deeply moved in his spirit and greatly troubled” (John 11:33) so this is further evidence that God is moved when one of His children passes away.
John 10:28-29 “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.”
What an image of being in the mighty, powerful sovereign hands of God and being permanently secure in Him. If you had something in your hand that was precious to you like a gem and someone tried to take it, wouldn’t you clinch your hand tight and prevent anyone from taking it? Now imagine the very hands of God. Who can snatch something out of the hands of God? The obvious answer is no one can which brings to mind what Jesus said in John 6:37 “All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.”
Joshua 1:5 “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
We cannot stand against the wiles of the Devil on our own as we need the full armor of God (Eph 6:11) but God gives us His promise in both the Old Testament and in the New Testament that He will never leave us and He will never forsake us, even when we leave Him and forsake Him because He is fully faithful, even when we are not. God tells Joshua that no one will be able to stand again him all the days of his life because of God is for you, who could ever be against you (Rom 8:31) and if God was with Moses and with Joshua, isn’t He with you if you are a child of His?
Psalm 103:13-14 “As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.”
Who better to know our frame that He Who created us? God as a Father is so compassionate to His own children and shows this compassion to those who fear Him. This is not a fear from being struck down and destroyed but a fear that is a deep, holy, reverential fear for God and for His Word. He knows exactly how our frame is made and just as a parent holds a precious newborn baby gently and carefully, knowing how fragile they are, God knows that our frame is frail and feeble and that we’re only made of dust. Such is the way that God remembers us.
John 11:25-26 “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
Talk about a confidence for the believer! As John 6:47 says “Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life” which in the Greek tense, is a permanent possession as in someone’s already taken possession of it. Elsewhere, Jesus supports this very idea when He said “Very truly I tell you, whoever obeys my word will never see death” (John 8:51). For the believer, their grave is not burial ground but resurrection ground.
Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
This is also from that very inspirational chapter one of the Book of Joshua. Here God actually commands Joshua to be strong and courageous and to not be afraid or discouraged. Ever been afraid or discouraged? I know I have many times but the good news is that we don’t have to be since as God was with Joshua, “the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Romans 8:33-35 "Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?”
Romans chapter eight might be the strongest chapter in the Bible about God’s preservation of the saints. Twice in this chapter, as if to repeat its importance, Paul asks the rhetorical question “Who can separate us form the love of God?” with the obvious answer being no one or nothing! Here Paul lays out any possible threat such as “death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom 8:37-39). To make sure that Paul covers every possible threat, he says “nor anything in all creation” which means the Devil, demons or governments…not anything that’s created and that must necessarily include us.
Conclusion
I pray these Bible verses will inspire you as much as they have me over the years for we know that God is faithful to His Word and all His promises are sure and amen. You can be as sure of that as anything you’ve ever been sure of in your whole life.
