It seems like every day there is a new bill to pay. We owe for rent or mortgage, utilities, groceries, gas, and more. While many people are fortunate to be employed, not everyone is so lucky to have a job. Being jobless poses a financial concern, which easily affects our health and spiritual lives. Now, with the Coronavirus pandemic in full swing, hundreds of thousands of people are losing their jobs and becoming sick, adding another financial burden. It can feel overwhelming and even test our faith. But while more and more people begin to feel the effects of unemployment, there is one resource in our lives that remains steady every day. That resource is God. Here are some inspirational verses for the jobless to offer hope.

Though we suffer now in great numbers worldwide, now is not a time to despair. Scripture offers many examples of people lacking what they want or what they thought they needed, but there is no greater need than a relationship with God. Scripture reminds us that God is and has everything that we need from this moment and forevermore. All we must do is turn towards Scripture and find the evidence. The following verses from the Bible are meant to encourage those in the midst of uncertainty and joblessness and redirect us to God’s provision.
Many plans are in a person’s heart, but the Lord’s decree will prevail.
Consider the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they?
Then he said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, don’t worry about your life, what you will eat; or about the body, what you will wear.
Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials,
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts.
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; your Protector will not slumber.
Don’t be afraid, little flock, because your Father delights to give you the kingdom.
Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy—dwell on these things.
A good person produces good out of the good stored up in his heart. An evil person produces evil out of the evil stored up in his heart, for his mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart.
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
I will both lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, Lord, make me live in safety.
Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.
The person who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence indeed is the Lord, is blessed.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your cares on him, because he cares about you.
I always let the Lord guide me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

The Bible reminds us that no matter what we encounter in this world, no matter when we find ourselves without work, He is always in control. God’s provision is always enough and if He loves us, then we can rest assured that He will take care of us. Instead of giving into despair, let’s fall on our knees and pray. Remember, this too shall pass, not on our timeline, but in His perfect timing.
