20 Bible Verses For When You’re Having A Difficult Day

We've all been in need of Bible verses for difficult days. We lost a job, experienced great familial strain, feel far away from God, or any number of other events that can leave us feeling spiritually dry, worn, and in need of peace and encouragement. No matter what trials you’ve faced today, read over these encouraging verses from scripture and let the Lord remind you of his goodness, faithfulness, and peace.


Romans 8:38-39

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”


Nothing can separate us from God’s love, not even difficult days. God will continue to love us, no matter what circumstances we’ve found ourselves in.

Psalm 34:8

“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”


God is good in the good days and bad. He works everything for good (Romans 8:28, see below).


Bible Verses For Difficult Days - Isaiah 40:28-29

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”


We often can get encouragement from two verses later in Isaiah 40:31, but these verses preceding also have uplifting words for readers. God has power and dominion over everything and is unchanging. We can know he’ll be the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.


Philippians 4:7

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”


God has the ability to grant us peace, even during difficult moments. Ask him to grant you peace now.

Nahum 1:7

“The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.”


God does not abandon us during tumultuous times in life. He walks with us in the midst of the fire.


Psalm 63:7-8

“Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me.”


God will not drop us. No matter what depths of despair we enter in life, we know that God upholds us in his hand and helps us in our time of need.


Bible Verses For Difficult Days - Ephesians 3:20-21

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.”


Our plans don’t always go according to, well, plan, but God’s plans always succeed. Even if he does not work according to our timetable, he can do immeasurably more than we could ever hope. Trust Him today.


Romans 8:28

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”


No matter what the circumstance, God can transform any broken situation or person into something beautiful.


Psalm 46:1-3

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”


Our world would like us to believe that everything has descended into chaos, but no matter what happens, even if the mountains crumble, we do not have to fear. God is with us.


Isaiah 46:4

“Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”


God was there to hear our borning cries and will stay with us our whole lives, sustaining us the whole way through.


Mark 10:26-27

“The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”


Even when situations seem impossible to fix or mend, trust the Lord will work behind the scenes. If he is mighty to save us from our sins, he can accomplish anything.


Bible Verses For Difficult Days - Psalm 103:2-5

“Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”


We can praise the Lord amidst our circumstances. He heals, restores, forgives, and redeems.


James 1:2-3

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”


Sometimes God can present a trial as a blessing in disguise. This fire will shape and mold us, even if we cannot see in the present situation how anything good can come out of it.


Psalm 100:5

“For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”


God’s love and faithfulness never fail us.


Romans 15:13

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”


God can fill us with hope and peace and joy as we learn to submit to his plan, yes, even during difficult days.


Matthew 6:26

“Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”


God will not forget us. If he cares for the birds of the air, how much more will he care for those made in his own image?


Psalm 23:4

“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff,  they comfort me.”


God walks with us through the darkness. Satan cannot overpower us with God by our side.


Isaiah 43:2

“When you pass through the waters,  I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers,  they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”


God protects us, even amidst tragedy and loss. He fills us with peace and hope and allows us to walk through the fire and the flood unharmed.


Zephaniah 3:17

“The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”


What an Almighty God who rejoices with us and loves us unconditionally!


Bible Verses For Difficult Days - 1 Peter 5:7

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”


God cares about our cares. No matter what circumstance you experience today, this week, or even this year, give your burdens to him. His burden is light, and he will sustain you.
