10 Powerful Quotes From The Movie Facing The Giants
September 24, 2014
Football and faith have often been tied together. It might seem odd, especially for a violent sport, but players often need a Christian-like faith, brotherhood, and attitude in order to survive and thrive on the field. Consider a handful of the football movies you have probably watched: Remember the Titans, When the Game Stands Tall, We Are Marshall—all of them share messages of perseverance, brotherhood, and even faith apart from the football field. A movie that exemplifies this a lot is Facing the Giants, a Christian based football movie that became quite popular years ago. If you’re a fan of football, I highly encourage it; if you enjoy inspirational movies, you would love this movie, too. As proof, here are 10 powerful quotes from the movie Facing the Giants.
10. "The more I read this book (the Bible) the more I realize that life’s not about us. We’re not here to get glory, make money, and die."
The kids playing football were going to a Christian school, so they learned a lot about the Bible. However, none of them were truly being affected by it. In other words, it was not changing their lives and impacting their hearts. However, eventually God’s Word took hold and students started realizing the true meaning of life.
9. "I’ve resolved to give God everything I’ve got and leave the results up to him."
It’s a cliché’, and often misused and abused, but it fits here: give God your best and he’ll take care of the rest! Now, this does mean God does not care about the in-between stages, because He does! However, it’s an encouragement and call to trying your hardest in all that you do. Christians should be the most passionate people alive because they know what they are actually working towards and whom they are serving.
8. "I heard of a story of two farmers praying to God for rain to come. Both prayed but only one prepared the land. Who do you think trusted God more to send the rain?"
This was a great question posed within the movie. Who really has more faith? A person who works hard and prepares for a blessing, or someone going through life nonchalantly ?
7. "And if we win, we praise Him; and if we lose we praise Him. Either way. We honor Him with our actions and our attitudes."
We should all adopt this philosophy in our lives. Whether we win, lose, thrive, or just get by in life—are we willing to praise God no matter what?
6. "Your actions will always follow your beliefs."
So, what is it that you believe?
5. "Your attitude is the aroma of your heart. If your attitude stinks, it means your heart’s not right."
Do you believe this to be true? If so, what do you smell like (funny to say, but remember the above quote for context!).
4. "You can't judge your father by his actions and yourself by your intentions."
We often do this, to our parents and other people in general. We tend to judge everyone else by what they do, but when it comes to us we judge ourselves by what we intended to do. We’ll say things to excuse ourselves like “oh. I just forgot. I meant to do it though.” But, when someone else is in the same position we immediately cast the first stone.
3. "With God, nothing is impossible."
Amen. I don’t think this one needs much explanation!
2. "You can't win games when you're more concerned with what you're doing afterwards!"
This is a good lesson to be concerned with what’s in front of you. As it’s been widely quoted, and often attributed to Jim Elliott, wherever you are be all there!
1. "Brooke, I can't provide you with a decent home, I can't provide you with a decent car, I'm a failing coach with a losing record. And I can't give you the children you want."
Very negative, huh? Well, this is the problem posed in the beginning of the movie. The team keeps losing, the coach keeps losing, and so many problems are coming up. So, what will God do in such a situation? Watch the movie to find out!
Conclusion
Facing the Giants is a great family movie to provide inspiration and hope to all, especially any who feel weighed down by infertility, financial troubles, or just life in general. The hope the movie brings is in Jesus Christ and Him alone—that is what really makes the movie inspirational. This football season, be sure to find time to check it out!
