10 Powerful Christian Quotes That Come From Songs

Many Christian songwriters have experienced powerful encounters with the Lord. As a result, believers around the world are blessed and strengthened when their words are put to music and song. We find the words of hymns and spiritual songs coming to our hearts and minds when we least expect it. The Holy Spirit brings the right melody just at the point of our need as we turn to God for strength. Check out 10 powerful Christian quotes that come from songs:

#1) All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name

“All hail the pow’r of Jesus’ name/Let angels prostrate fall/Let angels prostrate fall/Bring forth the royal diadem and crown Him Lord of all” (Edward Perronet).

In the future, every single knee will bow and every single tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. Yet in heaven there are heavenly hosts—powerful angels—who fall before God every day. He is the Lord over everything in, above, and below the earth.

#2) Battle Hymn of the Republic

“Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord/He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored/He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword/His truth is marching on” (Julia Ward Howe).

Jesus is coming back! Not as a humble baby born in a manager—but as the powerful Lord of lords and King of kings. As believers we must live every day in expectation of His great return.

#3) Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine

“Blessed assurance, Jesus is Mine/O what a foretaste of glory divine/Heir of salvation, purchase of God/Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood/This is my story, this is my song/Praising my Savior all the day long/This is my story, this is my song/Praising my Savior, all the day long” (Fannie Crosby)

The assurance of our salvation is key to our spiritual growth. If we must worry all the time about losing our salvation, we can’t live victoriously in Christ Jesus. Our comfort comes from the Holy Spirit who assures us of God’s presence over our lives.

#4) Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing

“O to grace how great a debtor/Daily I’m constrained to be/Let Thy grace, Lord, like a fetter/Bind my wand’ring heart to Thee/Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it/Prone to leave the God I love/Here’s my heart, Lord take and seal it/Seal it for Thy courts above” (Anonymous).

Every person who puts their trust in Jesus and receives the gift of salvation—is a debtor to Him. Yet because of the weakness of our flesh, we can fall short of our calling. Our wandering hearts lie in the powerful hand of God who strengthens us to follow after Him faithfully.

#5) Amazing Grace

“Amazing grace how sweet the sound/That saved a wretch like me/I once was lost but now I’m found/Was blind but now I see” (John Newton).

What is this grace that covers all our sins? We have all sinned and deserve a terrible judgment, yet the Lord in all His goodness granted us unmerited grace. This grace is completely undeserved which makes it so amazing to those who were lost and blind.

#6) I Need Thee Every Hour

“I need Thee ev’ry hour/Most gracious Lord/No tender voice like Thine/Can peace afford/I need Thee, O I need Thee/Every hour I need Thee/O bless me now, my Savior/I come to Thee” (Annie S. Hawkes).

There is not one hour nor one minute in which we don’t need God in our lives. He carefully charts our path and leads us into our calling. We can achieve nothing good in our lives without the Lord.

#7) It is Well with my Soul

“When peace like a river attendeth my way/When sorrows like sea billows roll/Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say/It is well, it is well with my soul/It is well with my soul” (Horatio G. Spafford).

In this life we will have many heartaches and troubles. Yet because of the love and care of our heavenly Father, we can have peace in our souls. He is with us in the midst of the stormy seas and dark valleys—He will never leave nor forsake us.

#8) Jesus Loves Me

“Jesus loves me this I know/For the Bible tells me so/Little ones to Him belong/They are weak but He is strong/Yes, Jesus loves me/Yes, Jesus loves me/Yes, Jesus loves me for the Bible tells me so” (Anna B. Warner).

It is a simple yet most profound thought: Jesus loves me. He loves us when we are faithful and when we are not. We cannot cause the Lord to love us more nor love us less. Jesus loves us.

#9) Praise God from Whom all Blessings Flow

“Praise God from whom all blessings flow/Praise Him all creatures here below/Praise Him above ye heavenly host/Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost” (Isaac Watts).

There can never be enough praise to offer to our Lord. Every part of creation gives praise in song, in movement, and in presence. As freewill creatures, we have the unique experience to praise God in words, songs, and our everyday actions.

#10) There is a Fountain

“There is a fountain filled with blood/Drawn from Immanuel’s veins/And sinner’s plunged beneath that flood/Lose all their guilty stains” (William Cowper).

Every person from every nation in this world can plunge themselves into the fountain of Jesus’ blood. Through the blood of Jesus we are cleansed of our sins and free to live without fear, shame, nor regret. His sacrifice settled once and for all that we are no longer constrained by the fear of death.

Melodies of the Heart

As we listen to these great hymns and spiritual songs, our hearts will be refreshed to live more boldly and confidently in our Savior’s care for us and those we love. Amen.
