10 Matt Maher Songs For Every Occasion

Do you feel encouraged as soon as certain songs by a certain artist come on the radio or Pandora or Spotify? Matt Maher is one of these artists for me because each song is encouraging and uplifting. He doesn’t sugar coat a situation, but finds a way to bring a message of hope. Hope is always available, regardless of how dim a situation may seem.

Here are 10 Matt Maher songs for every occasion.

Easter- Song: “Christ Is Risen” from the Album Alive Again

“Christ Is Risen” is a great song for Easter because it portrays a beautiful image of running to the cross and the power the resurrection brings. What are your answers to the questions Matt Maher poses in this song “Oh death where is your sting?” and “Oh hell where is your victory?”

Favorite Lyrics

Christ is risen from the dead

Trampling over death by death

Come awake, come awake

Come and rise up from the grave

Christ is risen from the dead

We are one with Him again

Come awake, come awake

Come and rise up from the grave

Baptism- Song: “New State of Mind” from the Album The Love In Between

New State of Mind is a great song to celebrate someone getting baptized because it’s the start of changing your state of mind. Accepting Jesus as your savior means you can release the old person you were and allow God to transform you by renewing your mind.

Favorite Lyrics

This is a mystery

That you would love me

For the rest of my life

All the way to eternity

This is a mystery

That you would love me

I give you everything

On the way to eternity

Stressful Day- Song: “Your Grace Is Enough” from the Album Empty & Beautiful

Is stress starting to trump the blessings today? “Your Grace Is Enough” is a great song to center you and remember that God’s grace covers all. If you find yourself running late, the kids forgetting their lunch at home and coming into work a half hour late, remember that God has your back.

Favorite Lyrics

Your Grace is enough

Heaven reaching down to us

Your Grace is enough for me

God, I see Your grace is enough

I'm covered In your love

Your grace is enough for me

For me

Diagnosis of Terminal Illness -Song: “Hold Us Together” from the Album Alive Again

Seasons of life can be draining, but love can conquer all. Recently – my cousin who is only 19 – was diagnosed with cancer. Many families receive this shocking news about their loved ones who are innocent children. It hits home even more when it happens in your family. Her mother has been there each step and has embraced the many people who have stepped in to help. Love is helping to conquer this battle.

Favorite Lyrics

And love will hold us together

Make us a shelter to weather the storm

And I'll be my brother's keeper

So the whole world would know that we're not alone

This is the first day of the rest of your life

This is the first day of the rest of your life

'Cause even in the dark you can still see the light

It's gonna be alright, it's gonna be alright

Losing a Job-Song: “Lord I Need You” from the Album All The People Said Amen

Who else fully understands what you are going through if you lose your job? Calling out to God and simply saying “Lord I need You” is powerful and allows God to embrace you during the path that He may have yet to reveal to you.

Favorite Lyrics

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You

Every hour I need You

My one defense, my righteousness

Oh God, how I need You

Surrendering to God- Song: “Letting Go” from the Album Alive Again

I love how Matt Maher softly sings in adoration of God’s goodness for His children. The process of letting go of yourself and surrendering to God is beautiful and full of more blessings than you can imagine. Surrender today and celebrate by listening to “Letting Go.”

Favorite Lyrics

I stand in awe of You

And everything You've done for me

You speak Your words into my life

And where You are is where I wanna be

I stand before You, Lord

Humbled by the love You give away

A widow's mite, my will and pride

It's all I have to offer anyway

Fear - Song: “Deliverer” from the Album Saints and Sinners

Are you in a season of fear? Maybe your marriage is dissolving or your child is walking away from what you think God has planned. Fear can be overwhelming, but you can experience peace when you let go and allow God to deliver you. It’s incredible how He works when you stop trying to control your life. “Deliverer” is one of the brand new songs on Matt Maher’s new album!

Death of a loved one-Song: “Because He Lives (Amen)” from the Album Saints and Sinners

The death of a loved one brings a sense of finality that few events in life can match. It brings fear, grief and often questions about how life can possibly go on. There is still tremendous hope and joy for you to experience because Christ overcame death and continues to live.

Favorite Lyrics

Because He lives

I can face tomorrow

Because He lives

Every fear is gone

I know He holds my life, my future in His hands

Waiting on an International Adoption-Song: “Sisters and Brothers” from the Album Saints and Sinners

This is a brand new song from Matt Maher’s new album, Saints and Sinners, which was just released! The song begins and ends with Martin Luther King Jr. speaking about overcoming battles and that we are all sisters and brothers. My heart turns to the many orphan children in countries like the Dominican Republic of the Congo (DRC) who have been restricting families from the United States and other countries from adopting children. Adopting a child internationally can take years, so the promise of a forever home has been torn away indefinitely. Some day we will be free of all restrictions that keep us from embracing our brothers and sisters.

Favorite Lyrics

Child don’t grow weary

Soon we will see the sun

All my brothers

Help each other

All my sisters

Walk together

No one is a stranger

We’re all sons and daughters

Yeah, yeah

Join hands with everyone

Don’t you hear the song we sing

Oh, there might be tears

We’re more than our fears

Freedom- Song: “Alive Again” from the Album Alive Again

You can experience freedom in Christ over and over again as God continually shapes you and renews you. It will feel like you can finally breath again!

Favorite Lyrics

Broke through my deafness
Now I'm breathing in and breathing out
I'm alive again
You shattered my darkness

Washed away my blindness
Now I'm breathing in and breathing out
I'm alive again
Late have I loved You
You waited for me, I searched for You

Accepting Jesus as Your Savior- Song: “Mighty Fortress” from the Album All The People Said Amen

You have so much to celebrate when you accept Christ as your savoir. He is your mighty fortress through all challenges, generations and forever.

Favorite Lyrics

You are the rock of salvation,

The only foundation

Lord of all

You are a hope never failing

A mighty fortress

Is our God

Article by Elise Cleary

I am a Christian writer and editor that lives in northern Michigan and thoroughly enjoy music, movies, TV shows, books and other entertainment with a Christian focus. My favorite song is "Oceans" by Hillsong United because it reminds me that has big plans for me and everyone else who puts their trust in Him. There are many movies that have impacted my life, but a few include God's Not Dead, The Shunning and Letters to God. When I'm not writing I enjoy watching movies and laughing with my busy toddler and husband.
